Aloha

Tom and I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Hawaii for a week of fun together! We had an awesome time. I have over 200 photo's of our week, but I tried to just choose a few of our favorites to share here! We stayed at Turtle Bay Resort on the north shore of Oahu. It was so nice for us because it was away from the big tourist traps and so relaxing!
On our first day we headed down to the beach to explore. They had this little place you could sit and drink pina-coladas! We ended up having one every day! Of course no vacation is complete without a good self photo!

We visited Laie where the temple is located. The temple is being renovated but the grounds and the visitors center are great!
I loved this statue of Christ. The colors are so tropical and appropriate for Hawaii!

This is Waimea Falls. It is in a tropical rain forest and was a very fun morning hike for us. So many colorful flowers and fun trees to look at on the way.

A sea turtle that we saw laying on the beach. We actually saw another sea turtle when we were snorkeling. It was so fun to actually swim with a turtle!

The Polynesian Cultural Center was probably the highlight of our trip. There are 7 different villages you can visit, and at each village they share some of their history through their music and dance! We spent two days here and it was amazing! Here they were demonstrating how they climb trees to get coconuts.

This young man was one of our favorites. All of his tattoos symbolize that he is ready to be a chief, and they are real.

We call this guy the six mile seal. We went on a hike to Kaena point and it was twice as long as the map said and over really rough rocky sea shore! At the end this is what we saw!

This was also at Kaena point. It was beautiful, and wild coastline.

Another self portrait taken at the resort.

This is Makapuu lighthouse. There was a fun hike that took you to a point above the lighthouse that had amazing views. It was straight up, but worth it.

The view from the top of the lighthouse hike.
This was the view from the top of Diamondhead.

There are over 280 stairs that you climb at the end of the Diamondhead hike! It is a military compound in a volcano and very cool to see.

This is Punchbowl, which is known as the cemetery of the Pacific. It has a very reverent feeling to it.

And of course Pearl Harbor. This was interesting to see but in a solemn way. Each of the markers you see at the base of the flag represents a ship that was lost on that day. Anyway it was a great trip and I am lucky to have such a wonderful husband to share it with! (and such a nice sister and mom to take care of my kids so I could!)

New Year Word

Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. Abraham Lincoln

After much thought and deliberation I have chosen the word.....

Happiness

I want to choose happiness for myself this year. I want to find happiness in whatever situation I am placed in. I want to be happy with what I have been blessed with, with who I am, and despite any frustration or trial I may face.

This is my goal for 2010!

The Constitution only guarantees the American people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself. Benjamin Franklin
